Why to use an online (website) forum? - 2007/01/11 05:52
Let's discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of using an online forum compared with sending e-mails to a list-serve or a list of e-mails.
Positives:
+ Your message is delivered worldwide without cost . So you can promote your stuff (rent, sell/buy) or events.
+ Is preserved for future reference. If you delete your e-mail you loose it.
+ Easier to manage information. Not interested in shopping stuff today? What about going out for a dinner (Restaurants)? Talk about University histories?
+ You don't saturate your e-mail account (INBOX). We just have 150MB in the University WebMail, and quickly fills up with other information (scanning, school stuff).
+ It has an user friendly format. Is like sending an e-mail!
+ You can modify it as many times as you want. Convenient compared to an e-mail that once you send it, is gone!
Negatives:
- You are in world public grounds. You need to remember this any time you post in the non-registered members areas. Be careful with sensitive information for spammers and hackers.
- You cannot force people to read it. But that happens with e-mails too, from the beginnings (SUBJECT) you decided if that would be interesting or not.
- Is not for emergencies. Remember that phones and radios are for that purpose.
Please feel welcome to correct me, add more comments and discuss more about this interesting tool,
