Thanks for taking the initiative to create a forum for the International Students.

I am just wondering whether it is better to say "International Student Community - UoG"....!!!

Good idea but i was thinking to change it "Student Community", so that everyone should feel free to participate in it. More the community member stronger it will be. And of'course international students have their own corner to publish and discuss, i have already made whole new category for international students in the forum. Since i didnt come across with any good UofG online forum many suggested to keep it open for everyone. The logo on top is already long enough ..lol

I also think that making the name shorter is very good. But my concern is whether we are going to have a forum restricted to UoG guys or Guys of all the universities...(universities in Ontario or...).

Ofcourse I understand that there is no way that we can control people outside UoG subscribing to this forum. But if we say this is the forum of UoG students, and restrict registration to uog email accounts, we might gain some control over its membership.

What do you think? You will have lot of work.

I think it must be restricted to certain level to avoid spam and hackers messing around.

It would be useful to authenticate users with a list of international, UoG, and prospective students (or by reference).

Authorities (University and Local), and community members (business) are other categories of users in this case,

Re:Name of the site - 2006/11/04 23:08 I agree with the idea of having some sort of restriction to only UofG students only but as Priyantha said it is also difficult not impossible. The only way i can see to do it by uofg email authentication cause it is not possible to take reference from university server database by any means. They will never ever release or allow the database. I have this idea in my mind and i am still thinking how can i integrate it. Due to the complexity of the site structure it will require really good efforts. Meantime i am also testing some really cool module which will increase more functionality per user basis. I will also be seeking help from some coder and programer among us to deal with authentication system. Please pop us if someone has experience about web publishing and scripting...

For now (as the site grows) we need to rely in reporting abuse, as most big sites are doing.

The University Directory online can be an alternative source.

site user restriction - 2006/11/05 01:26 We can always put forum under moderator's supervision and at extreme case for post approval before publishing will help in fighting against spam at certain level, on the top of that we can sort out registered user with uoguelph email id in separate group having access to specialised forum category. So like now "HotDeal" category is visible only to registered user only, in same way forum intended to UofG members will be visible to them only. We will need some volunteer moderator too. Once the webteam is formed i would like to discuss with everyone, i will also release some backend priviledge to webteam members so that they can control the site and forum.
