Immigration Time line - 2007/08/22 11:25
Hi Guys,
I am starting this thread about immigration time-line, cause everyone wonders and seek how long it takes in each step. Since our cases are nearly same we can quite predict the time-line if we have some successful examples here. I encouraged people to post their time line whether it is completed or in midway.
In my knowledge they are few well defined steps in immigration process:
(1) You submit application
(2) Acknowledgment of receipt (AOR)
(3) May ask for IELTS
(4) Your file could be transferred to other offices like New York/Detroit
(5) Initial Approval (IA)
(6) Medical Request, $490 right of permanent resident fee and may ask for additional documents
(7) Medical report sent to Ottawa by your Doctor
(8) Medical report uploaded to your immigration office from Ottawa
(9) Passport request (PPR)
(10) Receive back passport with Immigrant VISA stamped.
(11) Arrange your landing
(12) Apply for your new SIN no.
Well, experienced people are requested to add their feedback cause i may not be fully aware of the process.
MY TIME-LINE
(1) Applied in Aug, 06
(2) AOR Sept, 06
(3) Asked for IELTS, Jan 07. I refused to give IELTS giving my old TOEFL and letter from supervisor
(4) Initial Approval, asked for medical and permanent resident fee in Aug 2007. Asked me to submit updated proof of fund, and updated letter on my current employment (GRA) from my advisor.
(5) medical done on Aug 15, doctor said he will compile and send to Ottawa in a week time.
Now i am waiting, hopefully it may take 3-4 month to get passport request from Buffalo.

Congratulations Raj. 
Do you know of anyone who applied within Canada and got it when he/she has more than 1year left to complete the program (2 years for the Masters & 3 years for PhD, or according to the date of completion mentioned in the letters submitted to immigration) ?

Congratulations for getting your immigration. I am not sure if it really matters whether you have completed your studies or not. Cause one of my friend he is still doing his PhD got his PR last December. And i guess they also consider GRA as a job/work experience cause they asked me to submit a updated letter from my advisor for my current employment. Although i had work experience of more than 1 year before.
I would like to know how long does it takes after medical, thinking if i can still skip international tuition fee in Jan, 08.

Hello all,
I applied in May07, got file number in June, but they asked me to take IELTS until end of September.
I do not know what should I do.
I am single, have 5 years work experience in my country, RA&TA here, submit Toefl+3 letters from profs and english teacher.
I am exactly one year in Canada.
What do you think? Will I pass if I do not take the test?
Do you have any information about adaptibility?

Hi Ahsh
In my case they asked me IELTS too but i refused and sent a letter saying that i have already submitted TOEFL score and also wrote that i had previous degree in English. So i never took IELTS but my file proceeded. If they really need you to take IELTS they will ask you again unless you provide some convincing reason. But reply them as soon as possible.

Hi Raj,
Thank you very much for your reply and help.
I provided them Toefl and some letters from two professors and an ESL teacher along my request letter about waving the IELTS.
You know in their letter, they mentioned the items that I checked as my level of proficiency is not match with what I submitted( I choosed 3 of them as high and one as moderate) and they told if I do not provide the IELTS, they will judge accoirding to what I submitted and I might not get the score that I expected. Actually, I did not know what I shouls check when I was filling the application form.
I do not know how much scores they will give me if I do not provide new exam.
Without considering the adaptibility score, I need 13 scores from English.
What do you think?
Do you think I will get any score for "adaptibility"?
Some one told me if you are here one year and you were RA and TA, you will get 5 scores from that. Is that true?

Regarding adaptability i guess you have to be here enrolled for 2 years in any degree program. It says
You, or your accompanying spouse or common-law partner, have completed a program of full-time study of at least two years’ duration at a post-secondary institution in Canada. You must have done this after you were 17 years old and with a valid study permit.
There is no need to have obtained a degree or diploma for these two years of study to earn these points.

I really appreciate your kind help and reply.
I went through the CIC homapge before, but not the pages you send.
It was usefull.
Still it is not conviecable for me to spend a couple of hundreds $ to take the test, while I took TOEFL, but it seems I have to. I do not know what I should do.
If you had any suggestion and information, I appreciate you let me know.

Actually no one can tell you certainly, but in my case they asked me for IELTS too but i denied and mentioned about my TOEFL test and letter from advisor. In many cases it works but if they are not convinced then they may call you for interview to evaluate through conversation. I got lucky so far no interview and no re-request for IELTS, same for my 2 other friends too. So if you make enough points you may take chance but decide yourself.

Another question, I do not know why when I am going to go to ushout homepage from my laptop, a message comes up and asks for closing the window.
Do you know why?
Is it related to the version of IE that I am using?

It shouldnt ask to close the webpage.... not happening with me here, i tried firefox and IE both. Is it a Javascript message ? what it says ? try another browser. Thanks for letting me know that.
